interface design
I approach interface design from a user's perspective. It's not all about images and typefaces. I like to understand the business, the audience and the purpose.
I have been doing this for more than nine years, and have worked on a great variety of sites and web applications.
LouLou Shoes - interface design & front-end code
october 2008
LouLou is a boutique fashion label specialising in women's shoes. I have been working with LouLou Shoes for nearly two years.
Originally we produced a brochure site and an email marketing campaign. LouLou Shoes is now a fully fledged ecommerce site that the client can maintain and administer.
I was responsible for the interface design, front-end code and shopping cart installation & customisation. A fun project.

CITIZEN Watches - interface design & front-end code
august 2008
Working closely with CKWEB, I re-designed the new CITIZEN Watches websites for Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
CKWEB took care of client relations, the backend and Javascript and the intial HTML/CSS coding. The design, graphics and final CSS touches were my responsibility.
CKWEB and I spent plenty of time fine-tuning functionality and design to improve usability and support the business requirements.
I particularly like the Find your Watch page (for it's speed), the watch images (crisp & hi-res), the footer and Instruction Manuals page.
We already have our list of improvements, so hopefully we can get those happening soon.
Syncplicity – logo, interface design & front-end code
april 2008
Syncplicity, Inc. a startup in San Francisco first contacted me to design a new logo. They were impressed with the result, so hired me to design their new website - ready for a global launch in April 2008.
I provided all the HTML and CSS - ready for them to plug into their .NET project.
They have since hired me to extend their site, design & build all their customer HTML emails and design printed business cards.
Syncplicity are a great client, and it's a super product (real-time multi-computer backup and sharing) - you should give it a look-see.
IdeaSearch – logo & interface design
april 2008
Client: CKWEB
IdeaSearch (a product from VAVAVOOM) needed an overhaul. It required a new brand, style and position due to a change in business needs.
I wanted to keep the interface as simple as possible. Minimal graphics, clean design.
This is essentially a search tool, so it needs to be quick. As more products come online - the light interface will help reduce latency.
CKWEB handled all the front-end code and development for the project.
Green Washrooms – interface design
april 2008
Client: CKWEB
Green Washrooms needed a new Australian presence for their environmentally friendly washroom products.
It was an open brief, so I went with 'postit notes' as a motif (don't ask me). I was pretty happy with the outcome.
The client was so pleased they engaged a site redesign for their parent company E. Sime.
CKWEB handled all the front-end code and client relations for the project.
E. Sime – interface design
april 2008
Client: CKWEB
Having designed greenwashrooms.com.au, their parent company E. Sime (via CKWEB) wanted a new site for their Australia and New Zealand businesses.
The Australian and New Zealand teams had no existing internet presence, so again I was given a fairly open brief. I used a tight, square grid to define the layout.
I pushed the environmental side of their business and created the key graphics.
Front and backend code was completed by a New Zealand based team.
Ariel Atom – interface design & front-end code (DEMO ONLY)
march 2007
One of the purest production race cars out there. Ariel claims their Atom adheres to 'form follows function' and 'if it doesn't need it, it hasn't got it'.
Shame their website doesn't play the same tune... Splash screen, pop-up window, Flash-flying-text... oh dear. See the original to compare.
Ariel have redesigned their site since I first created this demo - and I still don't like it. It might be me, but I think my idea is better.
daverayner.com.au v1 – logo, interface design & front-end code
jan 2007
Well, it is one of mine, so it had to go in right? I really enjoyed the process of putting this together – a few lessons learnt, and a result that lasted me one-and-a-half years.
It never really had much of a portfolio – didn't get around to it. Clients didn't seem to mind (the ones I heard from anyway :)
This new version is simpler. I have excluded Information Architecture, User Testing and Interaction Design as I just incorporate these skills into my design process.
I edited the text. There were too many words.
I also cut back on the interface graphics.
Thanks for looking around. Contact me if you think I can help with your project.
